Now there are many more of them. At Dr Enrico Locatellis herd they are today milking 25 Swedish Red crosses. The Swedish Red crosses overtake the Holstein herdmates for milk (34 vs 32,4), fat (4,46% vs 4,10%), protein (3,35% vs 3,12%) and cellcount (48 000 vs 107 000). One reason is likely the easy calving for the Swedish crosses give them a good start of the lactation. The best milking heifer overall is a T Bruno daughter giving well over 40 kg a day. We look forward to more positive reports from Italy during this year as more and more Swedish Red start to milk.
