A unique philosophy driving global market success

Farmer-Owned Genetics with Global Impact

What sets VikingGenetics apart from competitors, and how does our cooperative model impact our relationships with farmers globally?

VikingGenetics stands out due to our cooperative structure and breeding philosophy. Unlike many competitors, we focus on long-term partnerships rather than simply selling semen. Our breeding values are independently verified, ensuring transparency and credibility.

Being part of a cooperative allows us to maintain a strong focus on the farmers and their needs for tailored genetic solutions. This model is highly respected worldwide, with customers impressed by the professionalism and expertise of Nordic herds.

We usually say that VikingGenetics is created by farmers for farmers. This form a high level of credibility, as there is great respect for Nordic farmers around the world. For me personally, it is important that we are part of a strong community, and that the success we achieve in international markets benefits our Nordic farmers, enabling us to create even better genetics together in the future.

As an independent entity, VikingGenetics combines expertise across Breeding, R&D, Sales, and Marketing, bringing the best genetics from Denmark, Sweden, and Finland to global markets. This collaborative approach ensures we provide toptier genetic solutions. Our success is a shared responsibility, and while we have made great progress, we also have ambitious goals to achieve even more.

Data-driven dairy farmers driving genetic progress

Who chooses VikingGenetics as provider, and what are the key markets?

VikingGenetics genetic products and solutions appeal to professional, long‑term‑thinking dairy farmers who prioritise datadriven decisions to improve herd health, fertility, and longevity. These farmers are focused on solving challenges like inbreeding, and they value our transparent, evidence‑backed breeding approach. They see genetics as a strategic investment – not as a commodity to be bought as cheaply as possible.

Our customers span key markets like Germany, the UK, the United States, and Australia, where we have established strong, trusted partnerships. Additionally, our extensive distributor network ensures we are present across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and South America. Through our comprehensive genetic solutions, we offer farmers the tools to improve herd health, productivity, and profitability — grounded in the proven Nordic breeding model and supported by datadriven insights.

A great example of a customer who embodies these values is Jeff Bosma, a U.S. dairy farmer with 7,500 Jersey cows. Jeff has worked with VikingGenetics for decades, using the Nordic breeding system and NTM to make datadriven decisions that have had a lasting positive impact on his herd. For farmers like Jeff, VikingGenetics is more than just a supplier — it is a strategic partner that offers a transparent, long‑term breeding solution focused on driving continuous genetic progress to maximise profitability.

Turning farm-level insights into global genetic value

What surprises global customers when visiting the Nordics, and how do we explain the value of VikingGenetics abroad?

Farmers from international markets are often amazed by how we collect and manage data on Nordic farms, such as hoof trimmers entering data directly into tablets. This level of precision and efficiency surprises many, reinforcing the transparency and innovation behind our breeding system. When traveling abroad, we emphasise our data-driven approach, which is independently verified to ensure credibility. Farmers appreciate our breeding philosophy, which balances production and health traits for sustainable profitability.

Our breeding experts and product managers are among our greatest strengths. They interpret complex data and connect it directly to the farmer’s daily operations. Working closely with farmers in multiple markets gives them first-hand insight into how genetics perform under very different conditions – gaining knowledge they bring back to continuously refine our products and recommendations. This expertise fosters trust, as farmers clearly see how data turns into healthier, more efficient, and more productive cows in their own barns.

What truly distinguishes the Nordic breeding system is its foundation in real‑world, day‑to‑day observations. Instead of relying on assumptions or proxy traits, our approach is rooted in direct measurements and selection.

The real-life data flows into one shared, centralised database, giving us highly reliable breeding values that keep us at the forefront of dairy genetics. It is your daily work as farmers that creates worldleading genetics. And that is something we all can be genuinely proud of.
